Our ingredients

Quality management forms an integral part of the production process, beginning with the selection of premium ingredients. Freshly-harvested hazelnuts and top quality cocoa are carefully selected and processed promptly in our factory. All the products are manufactured with natural dry ingredients like the best quality cocoa powder, milk powder and sustainable vegetable oil.

Moreover, Penotti uses no colours, no preservatives, no artificial flavours and are GMO free.

Rainforest Alliance Certified Cocoa

Rainforest Alliance Certified is one of the largest sustainability programs for cocoa, coffee and tea in the world. Within the Rainforest Alliance Certified program farmers are trained to use cost efficient, environmentally and socially responsible farming practices. This way farmers become professional and responsible entrepreneurs and sustainable agricultural supply chains can be achieved.

Fairtrade Cocoa

Penotti Organic uses Fairtrade ingredients that have been traded in compliance with Fairtrade standards, ensuring farmers a fair price for their cocoa beans and sugar. For more information about the Fairtrade program: Fairtrade

Hazelnuts

Hazelnuts are an important ingredient in our chocolate hazelnut spreads. The best hazelnuts are selected to create a delicious and intensely smooth hazelnut flavour.

The hazelnuts used in Penotti originate from Turkey and Italy. Hazelnuts are harvested between the start of August and the end of September.

Sugar

We use different types of sugar in our products: beet sugar and refined cane sugar. Our Penotti Organic range contains cane sugar, is certified organically grown and traded in compliance with Fairtrade standards.

Quality control procedures, from the moment the sugar arrives at the factory right through the packaging stage of the finished spread, ensure the sugars used in our products meet the highest quality standards. We have established a close and long term relationship with our sugar suppliers. Our strict quality control system enables us to trace the origin of the sugar in our products.

Scorecard WWF

WWF strongly believes that the palm oil industry can grow and prosper without destroying tropical rainforest by adhering to the principles and criteria of RSPO. In 2015 WWF has published its first Dutch palm oil ‘scorecard’. Penotti came first in the total Dutch ranking because of its dedication to 100% sustainable and segregated palm oil.

Vegetable Oils

Canola oil

Canola oil is the number 1 vegetable oil in Canada and Japan, while number 2 in Mexico and the US. Overall it is the 3d most consumed vegetable oil in the world.

Once harvested, canola seeds are taken to a crushing facility where the oil contained within the seed is extracted, refined and bottled as canola oil. Canola oil has the least saturated fat of all cooking oils.

Penotti commits to 100% RSPO segregated palm oil

Penotti products are produced with palm oil that is 100% certified sustainable and segregated according to the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) supply chain.

RSPO is an international organisation whose focus is making sustainable palm oil sourcing a normal practice. The RSPO has developed a set of environmental and social criteria which companies must comply with in order to produce Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO). When they are properly applied, these criteria can help to minimize the negative impact of palm oil cultivation on the environment and communities in palm oil producing regions. They have committed to produce, source and/or use sustainable palm oil certified by the RSPO

Penotti RSPO certified segregated palm oil: it is segregation that provides the tool to keep sustainable palm oil physically separated from non-sustainable palm oil and to trace it from the certified sustainable plantations to the production line.
